This includes oversight and implementation of all programs and operations involving Community Centers and Senior Centers, sponsorship and marketing efforts, specialty programs, such as the Senior Meal program, and special events such as Pumpkin Trail, Fishing derbies, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.
Essential Functions Plan, coordinate, and supervise the activities for indoor recreation and leisure programs; Select, train, supervise and evaluate recreation program staff and instructors directly or indirectly; Assist in the preparation and administration of operating budget for assigned recreation programs; Research available program funding through grants, assist in preparing grant applications and in grant administration; Prepare reports on recreation programs and activities.
Communicate with citizens to receive input and requests, and resolve customer complaints; Prepare feasibility studies and other reports; Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service; Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, public administration, or a related field, with an additional one to three years of experience providing recreational or cultural programs and activities; or any combination of relevant education and experience.
Public agency experience is preferred.
Valid current Driver's License Physical exam required Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of:
Recreational trends and philosophies; Principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluation; Principles and practices of work safety; Use of modern office procedures, methods of computer equipment.
Ability to:
Organize, implement and direct recreation and leisure programs; Analyze, supervise, train and evaluate assigned personnel; Maintain records and prepare reports; Assist in the preparation and administration of the operating budget; Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Physical Requirements Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds; Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds; Occasionally sit, kneel, bend, walk and stand during the shift; Frequently climb ladders, stairs or inclined surfaces; Frequently bend during shift; Push and pull objects; Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees; Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left or forward while sitting or standing; Place arms above, at or below shoulder height; Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
