Barber/Cosmetologist

Barber/Cosmetologist Performs entry-level barber or cosmetology work.
Work involves cutting, shampooing, and styling hair; maintaining the cleanliness of work areas and equipment; and maintaining records of work performed.
Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
1.
Follows consumer's Beauty Shop appointment in accordance with internal guidelines in order to ensure the cosmetologist professionally sees consumers on a routine basis.
Consumer's are scheduled every 30 days with no more than (2) documented instances of failure to follow internal guidelines.
2.
Maintain cosmetologist tools and equipment safe and sanitary in accordance with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Policy in order to insure avoidance of cross contamination of germs.
Sterilized tools and equipment used to groom consumer's hair at the Beauty Shop with no more than (2) documented instances of unsanitary operation of tools to groom consumers hair.
3.
Operate Cosmetologist equipment to give consumers permanent waves, shampoos and sets hair, comb outs and style hair, colors hair, gives facials, including arch eye brows, including checks and reports abnormalities, and manicures nails in accordance with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations policy in order to enhance the consumer.
4.
Provides pertinent information of special consumers needs to supervisor in order to ensure consumers needs are addressed and met.
Special consumers need is reported within 8 hours of discovery with no more than (2) instances of failure to report findings.
5.
Stay current in a education course and is current in training courses in accordance with administrative policies in order to enhance Cosmetology skills and fulfill job requirements.
Cosmetologist is current in training courses and continue to enhance Cosmetology skills by attending a continuing education courses once every 2 years with no more that (2) documented instances of failure to follow procedures.
6.
Uses chemical hair relaxer on hair when requested by the IDT in accordance's with internal policies to enhances consumers appearance.
Chemical haircare products are used on consumer's with no more than (2) documented complaints about cosmetology techniques or services provided during the evaluation period.
7.
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
8.
Provides haircuts and other hair procedures as needed and/or scheduled.
(85%) Serves as resource person to Home Support Staff in specifying and purchasing hair care products.
Also provides advice as needed/requested for hair care.
(10%) Maintain shop & tools in a clean and sanitary manner (5%) 9.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of hair types and styles and of barbering or cosmetology methods and practices.
Knowledge of current hair fashions and care recommendations.
Skill in the use of barbering or cosmetology techniques, tools, and equipment.
Ability to work closely with others.
Ability to work under tight deadlines.
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Current Class A Barber license issued by the Texas State Board of Barber Examiners OR Cosmetologist license issued by Texas Cosmetology Commission.
Initial Selection Criteria:
Licensed as a Class A Barber by the Texas State Board of Barber Examiners or as a Cosmetologist by the Texas Cosmetology Commission.
1 year experience with Barber or cosmetology.
Strongly prefer previous experience working with people who have developmental disabilities.

Salary Note:
The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.
